Peter Hay Halpert Fine Art is pleased to announce the opening of I’d never willingly do you harm,an exhibition of 23 photographs by 18 international artists. The show will open on Thursday, 17 Julyand close on Friday, 22 August. A reception for the artists will be held on Thursday, 17 July from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
The exhibition is curated by Tony Cederteg. Cederteg is the publisher and owner of Cederteg Publishing (founded 2006) which focuses on drawing art, photography and fashion. Based in Stockholm, Sweden, he's also an independent curator. Most recently he has put together shows in Reggio Emilia, Stockholm, and Milan, in addition to this exhibit here in New York. He is the distribution manager for Livraison Magazine, as well as the host of the nationally-televised Swedish fashion showStreetsmart. He has been called a “Swedish entrepreneur, model, curator, actor, and one-man-band.”
I’d never willingly do you harm features new photographs by young and emerging artists from Sweden, Italy, Switzerland, and the United States. Each of the photographs in the exhibition is a unique piece; none of the images are being issued in editions. Several of the artists are already known to the gallery. Roberto De Luna, Todd Jordan, and Daniel Karlsson are all represented by Peter Hay Halpert Fine Art and have had notable exhibitions at the gallery, as well as elsewhere in the U.S. and abroad. Andrea Castro has long been affiliated with the gallery. This exhibition also reunites Peter Hay Halpert and Michelle Cortez; in 2001 he organized an exhibition in London – Raw: New York, New Work – which included Cortez, De Luna and other young artists such as Ryan McGinley.
Cederteg states that: “Basically I just wanted to show some great artists that I've worked with through my publishing house and within my curating for shows and shit. As simple as that. These peeps makes me very happy. They're all very productive and easy to worship. I care for them greatly and I truly hope the very best for them." Cederteg sees this exhibition as a “declaration of love. I asked each of the artists to photograph something or someone that’s very dear to them, something that they don’t want to hurt or harm, and that brings out the best in them.” The images range from portraits to landscapes, and some of the photographs were made expressly for this exhibition.
The exhibition is accompanied by a limited edition zine/catalogue. The 500 copies are available through the gallery, for sale at AMERICAN APPAREL, and are also being distributed worldwide.
