Inaugural Show, 2000

Through 23 December

PETER HAY HALPERT FINE ART

TO INAUGURATE OPERATIONS AT 72ND STREET

PETER HAY HALPERT has inaugurated a new venue dedicated to exhibiting contemporary photo-based art. PETER HAY HALPERT FINE ART, located opposite Sotheby's on New York's Upper East Side, initially will focus primarily on contemporary British artists.

The opening exhibition, a group show, on view through September, features work by Christopher Bucklow, Adam Fuss, Garry Fabian Miller, Steven Pippin, Neil Reddy, Liz Rideal, and the New Zealander, Ross T. Smith. In addition, photographic pieces by a select group of American artists, including Barbara Pollack and Liza Ryan, are on display.

While each of these artists is established in their homeland, in many instances this will be the first opportunity for some collectors to see their work here in the United States. Steven Pippin was short-listed for the prestigious Turner Prize in 1999. Liz Rideal was recently the subject of a one-woman touring mid-career retrospective. Both Christopher Bucklow and Garry Fabian Miller come to this exhibition from the recent success of their respective solo shows at the Tate Gallery. Furthermore, works by these artists have been acquired by such institutions as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the International Center of Photography, the Museum of Fine Art in Boston, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.

In addition to being a private dealer, PETER HAY HALPERT is a respected and widely-published author, curator, and collector, specializing in contemporary art and photography.
